For decades now, Jill Briscoe has been one of the most-respected Bible teachers in the world. And along with her husband, Stuart, she has carried on a vibrant ministry at Elmbrook Church in Wisconsin. Growing up with interest and training in the dramatic and entertainment arts, Jill writes with the spirit of the artist. One of her latest books is entitled, Spiritual Arts. It is a study of Philippians. In the introduction she writes,
I like to think of the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of men and women as art. There are martial arts, culinary arts, dramatic arts, musical arts, fine arts–and spiritual arts. “Spiritual art” refers to the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives–in our character, gift and blessing.
If you do not already know Jill Briscoe, I hope you’ll come to know her soon.
Hello Steve,
Oh how delighted I was when Sarah Bronos pointed me to your writings! I plan to plumb the depths in the days ahead.. but I just had to give a shout-out concerning your Jill Briscoe plug. I worked at Elmbrook as the worship director under Stuart’s leadership for years, and I have the JOY of traveling with Jill on a semi-regular basis. They are absolutely and without exception the REAL deal. I am so honored to call them friends. I remember sitting through Stuart’s sermon series on Ephesians many years ago – I printed a manuscript for myself so I could take detailed notes – it was SO significant. Love it, love him, love her, love them.
So, so happy to connect with you here!
Much love to you guys — maybe we’ll gather again for another concert in a chapel that’s not quite as big and not quite as empty! 🙂
Blessings,
Stephanie Seefeldt
