Journey in the Word: The Message of Hosea

Week 9

Read:  Hosea 6:6

My friend, Dr. Ken Collins, says the gospel can be summed up in two words:  Holy Love.

If Amos is the messenger of God’s expectation of holiness, Hosea is the messenger of God’s offer of love.  The life of Hosea is the message.  What God asks the prophet to do is what God does all the time.

If we ever have the idea—or if anyone we know ever has the idea, that they have gone “too far” for God to every bring them back, read Hosea.  The truth is that as we “fall from grace,” we simultaneously “fall into grace.”

I finally figured that out when I saw God’s love as a circle surrounding me.  If you fall from any point on the circle, you are always heading toward a point on the other side.  When we fall away by sin, we are simultaneously falling closer by love.  We are encircled by God—encircled by love.
