In-Sight: A Leader’s Vulnerability

Last week’s acquittal of John Edwards has generated a flurry of evaluative essays.  Fast Company magazine’s Craig Chappelow weighed in on a key area of vulnerability for leaders:  lack of accountability.

He proposed four questions every leader should ask in order to avoid becoming self-deceived, and therefore, dangerous….

(1) Do you think you are a star?

(2) Do you think you’re invincible?

(3) Do you think others will cover for you?

(4) Would a public revelation of truth about you be a problem for you?

Unless the answer to all four is “No,” any leader runs the risk of thinking too highly of himself/herself—something St. Paul warned against a long time ago.
