Holy Week 2013: Lent As Eucharist

Holy Tuesday
John 12:20-36

When we receive holy communion, we say, “Christ has died.  Christ is risen. Christ will come again.”

The journey of holy week takes us through the same three dimensions of faith.  The death and resurrection of Jesus are literally in the week, with Christ’s return prefigured in our anticipation of his final victory over sin and death.

Lent is eucharistic.  It evokes the deepest thanksgiving possible.  When Jesus is lifted up, we are elevated with him, illustrating yet again that LIFE is the final word spoken by God in the gospel story.

    Actually, the acclamation says, “Christ has died, Christ IS risen, Christ will come again.” It struck me one morning while leading worship the progression of the tenses in each statement and the affirmation of the reality of the resurrection in each present moment. It is that present reality that is truly Gods gift to us all!!
