Meditation:  “The Upside-Down Gospel”

This principle doesn’t always work, but a lot of the time if we did the opposite of what the fallen world wants, we would be doing what Jesus wants.  Today’s lesson has two examples.

The first has to do with seating arrangements at a wedding banquet, and the second with the invitation list for a dinner party.  Both occasions are redefined by the Gospel.  Just do the opposite of “social propriety,” Jesus says, and you will be doing what God affirms

In the Book of Acts, the general public said, “Those who have turned the world upside down have come here also” (17:6).  But the truth was (and is), they were turning the world rightside up.  Sin turns the world upside down.  When the way of Jesus is enacted, the “upside down” Gospel is really just turning it rightside up!

Today’s lesson is a call to watchfulness–a call to be on the lookout for occasions when doing the opposite of conventional wisdom will be doing God’s will.  The upside-down Gospel is still looking for people, places, and things to turn rightside up.
