Meditation: Ready Now!

John Wesley believed that everyone is open to God sometimes….no one is open to God all the time…
and some people are open to God now.  He was on the lookout for those who were ready “now.”

I believe Jesus used a similar strategy.  He was on the lookout for people who were ready “now.”  He found it in Zaccaeus.

In terms of our own spiritual formation, we need to be alert to those places where we are open “now” to the movement of God’s Spirit.  Maybe it is a problem or a struggle.  Perhaps it is a longing or hunger.  It can be anything.  But when we identify a place where we are ready “now,” we can be certain that Jesus is heading our way.

Similarly, we need to be alert to those around us who are ready “now.”  Perhaps they are ready for a full-fledged witness and an invitation to accept Christ themselves.  Or it may be there is someone who simply needs attention, a kind word or a smile.  When you see such a person, you can be sure God is ready to work through you to encourage the one who is “up a tree” and ready “now” for God to work in their lives.
