Read:  Luke 23:33-43

Meditation:  “The Great Promise”

We end the Christian Year with Jesus’ great promise, “You will be with me.”  The Cross bridges the gap, heals the breach, and ignites the reconciliation.  In every way, we are “saved.”

A few weeks after the Cross, Jesus said, “I am with you.”  His two statements establish the relationship.  Jesus’ redemption gives us hope; his presence gives us the means.  We live between his two statements, using each day to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, as Oswald Chambers put it: “we must work out what God has worked in.”  We will be with him, because he has been with us.  Thanks be to God for this inexpressible gift!
