Journey: The Orienting Center

Read: “Jesus the Teacher”

We call it staying on message; that is, being so focused that all of our life tends toward a singular reality.  McLaren is spot on in showing how, no matter the time or form, Jesus’ one message was the Kingdom of God.

I was blessed to discover this in the early years of my Christian walk, thanks to the writings of E. Stanley Jones.  In books like ‘The Unshakable Kingdom and the Unchanging Person,’ Jones helped generations of Christians see this core message and to seek it (i.e. Matthew 6:33).

Now, Brian McLaren is among those pointing toward the same singularity for Christians today.  I celebrate his doing so, and I am so glad he ended the chapter showing us that the essence of the Kingdom is captured in one word: Life.

I pray his words may launch or deepen your own quest to make the Kingdom of God the orienting center of your life.
