For the Bride: Good Friday Love

Today, we see the apex of love–the Cross.  In what was for many of us one of the first  verses we learned after becoming Christians (John 3:16) we saw that God “gave his only-begotten son.”

This includes the entirety of Jesus’ life and ministry, but it is focused on the Cross, where on a truly good (redemptive) Friday, atonement for sin was taken care of fully and finally.

Only a few hours earlier, Jesus had told his disciples that there was no greater love than the willingness to lay down one’s life for a friend.  And then, he himself did it!

We are the latest recipients of the benefits of his passion, and so also will be all people yet unborn until Christ comes again.  Good-Friday love unites the past, present and future declaring that we are no longer strangers to grace and aliens to God.  We are God’s beloved daughters and sons, invited to make our way up a hill called Mount Calvary, and there to be cleansed from all unrighteousness!
