Here and Now: Genealogies

In the first eleven chapters of Genesis there are four genealogies.  This is another indication that God is here-and-now, and calls us to be so too.

Each name in these lists sends the message, “Every person and every period in which they lived matters.”  We never get from one place to another without everyone and everything in between.  Some of the names in the genealogies are well-known, others are unknown.  But on the list they are equal, for that is exactly how God saw each of them, and sees each of us.

Jeannie and I have a friend who has made the here-and-now recognizing and respecting of people her ministry.  Every day, in one way or another, our friend Lisa Schmidt says to people, “Your life matters.  Your story matters.” [1]  Through Lisa and other here-and-now people like her, God is saying, “Put your name on the list.  You are a sacred link in my never-ending Story.”

[1]  Lisa’s ministry is called “The Sober Hipster.”  Go online and find out more about it.
